Why I became an immigration consultant
From building software to building cases.
Immigration decisions change the direction of people’s lives: careers, families, futures. I’ve been through the Canadian immigration process myself, so I know how stressful and confusing it can feel.
Before becoming an RCIC, I built my career in software engineering. That work built a useful habit: break a complex system into steps, track the dependencies, test every assumption, and find the path that doesn’t cut corners. Canadian immigration law is that kind of system.
So I build applications the way I used to build software: documented, tested against the rules, and reviewed line by line before IRCC ever sees them. If you’ve had a refusal, I’ll tell you exactly why it happened and whether there’s a path forward. If you’re starting fresh, we’ll map out the right stream and set clear expectations before any application begins.

Why “5K Immigration”?
Named for the Five Ks.
The name comes from the Five Ks, the articles of faith in Sikhism. They stand for discipline, identity and living by your values. Those principles guide how I work every day, so the practice is built on five values of its own.

Who is Gurvinder Singh?
Gurvinder Singh is a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC #R710529), licensed since December 2021, and the founder of 5K Immigration Services in Surrey, British Columbia. Before becoming an RCIC he worked in software engineering, and he has been through the Canadian immigration process himself.
What is an RCIC and why does it matter?
An RCIC (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant) is licensed by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) to advise and represent clients in Canadian immigration matters for a fee. RCICs follow a code of professional conduct, carry insurance, and are accountable to a regulator, unlike unlicensed “ghost consultants”.
How long does the immigration process take?
It depends on the program, where you apply from and IRCC’s current volumes. During a consultation you get a realistic timeline based on current processing standards for your situation.
Do you guarantee my application will be approved?
No honest consultant can guarantee approval; the decision is always made by IRCC or another government body. What I promise is a carefully prepared, fully documented application and honest advice about your chances.
What happens during the initial consultation?
Gurvinder reviews your background, assesses your eligibility for the programs that could fit, explains the options in plain language and recommends a strategy. You leave with clear next steps and realistic expectations.
How are your fees structured?
Fees are set out in a written service agreement before any work begins, with no hidden charges. You know what you’re paying for and what is included at each stage. Government fees are separate and paid to IRCC.
