Express Entry

A CRS strategy first, then a PR application where every claim is backed by evidence.

The short answer

Express Entry is Canada’s online system for skilled-worker permanent residence. It covers the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class, and ranks candidates by Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. After an Invitation to Apply (ITA) you have 60 days to submit a complete PR application.

Express Entry profile and PR application

From eligibility and profile to a complete application after your invitation.

  • FSW, FST and CEC
  • Ranked by CRS score
  • 60 days after your ITA

About

IRCC holds general, program-specific and category-based draws and invites the highest-ranking candidates. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points. Since March 25, 2025, a job offer no longer adds CRS points.

How I help

  • CRS calculation and a realistic plan to raise it
  • FSW, FST and CEC eligibility, including how each job is counted
  • Your profile, then the complete PR application after your ITA
  • Federal Skilled Worker candidates (TEER 0–3 experience, 67-point selection grid)
  • Federal Skilled Trades candidates with a qualifying trade
  • Canadian Experience Class candidates with skilled Canadian work experience
  • French-speaking candidates and candidates in occupations targeted by category-based draws

Express Entry application review (after an ITA)

A second set of eyes on a file you prepared yourself, before you submit.

  • After your ITA
  • Before you submit
  • Written list of fixes

About

Errors, missing documents or inconsistencies after an ITA can lead to delays, requests for more information, or refusal. The review checks your complete package against IRCC’s requirements and your own profile claims.

How I help

  • Document checklist against IRCC requirements
  • NOC, work experience, language test and ECA checks
  • A written list of fixes, in priority order
  • Candidates who received an ITA and prepared the application themselves
  • Anyone unsure about NOC codes, work experience, or an ECA report
  • Applicants who want a regulated consultant to check the file before submission

NOC code review

Match your real duties to the right National Occupational Classification code.

  • TEER 0–3 for Express Entry
  • Duties, not job titles
  • Category-based draws

About

Your NOC code decides your TEER category, program eligibility and, for category-based draws, whether you qualify at all. An incorrect NOC can make an application ineligible or raise a misrepresentation concern.

How I help

  • Review of the duties you actually perform
  • Mapping against the 2021 NOC lead statement and main duties
  • TEER, program eligibility and consistent reference letters
  • Candidates unsure which NOC code fits
  • Workers whose duties span several NOC titles
  • Employers writing job descriptions for immigration purposes

What decides these files

Where applications go wrong, and how I prevent it

  • Reference letters that prove the NOC

Generic letters, or duties copied word for word from the NOC, are a common reason for refusal.

  • Counting work experience correctly

Part-time hours, self-employment and work while studying count differently in each program.

  • Profile claims you can prove

Every point you claim must be backed by documents dated before the ITA.

  • Proof of funds and timing

FSW and FST candidates without a valid Canadian job offer must show settlement funds that meet IRCC’s current table, held over time.

Fees and timelines change: check IRCC’s current processing times (opens in a new tab).

Questions

Express Entry: common questions

How does Express Entry work?

You create an online profile, IRCC checks it against the Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Skilled Trades and Canadian Experience Class requirements, and eligible profiles are ranked by CRS score in a pool. IRCC invites top-ranking candidates in regular draws. After an Invitation to Apply you have 60 days to submit a complete permanent-residence application.

What is a good CRS score for Express Entry?

There is no fixed passing score. Each draw has its own cut-off, and category-based draws (for example French-language or specific occupations) often invite candidates with lower scores than general draws. A provincial nomination adds 600 points. Use the free CRS calculator for an estimate, then book a consultation for a realistic plan.

Does a job offer still give CRS points?

No. Since March 25, 2025, a job offer no longer adds CRS points. Canadian work experience, language scores, education, French ability and a provincial nomination still do.

How can I increase my CRS score?

The most common ways are retaking a language test for higher CLB levels, adding French, getting an ECA for an additional credential, gaining more skilled Canadian work experience, including a spouse’s factors correctly, and applying for a provincial nomination. Which of these is realistic depends on your profile.

Can an RCIC in Surrey help if I live elsewhere in Canada or abroad?

Yes. Express Entry is entirely online, so 5K Immigration Services works with candidates across Canada and internationally by video or phone. Clients in Surrey and Greater Vancouver can also meet Gurvinder in person.
