Sources & scoring notes

Scoring reviewed October 5, 2026. Based on the expression of interest scoring factors on Ontario’s Ontario Workforce Priority stream page, updated October 6, 2026. For self-employed physicians, TEER and occupational category are prepopulated and the wage factor doesn’t apply.

How OINP scoring works

The short answer

Ontario scores expressions of interest out of 132 points. Employment and labour market factors are worth up to 72 (TEER category, occupational category, hourly wage, Ontario work experience, earnings history and status in Canada), education up to 20, language up to 25, and the location of the job up to 15.

I help Ontario candidates from my office in Surrey, by video or phone. If your score is close, the job location, the wage or a language retest can make the difference, and your employer has to meet the OINP’s own requirements too.

Questions

OINP questions

How is the OINP Ontario Workforce Priority score calculated?

Ontario scores expressions of interest out of 132 points. Employment and labour market factors are worth up to 72 (TEER category, occupational category, hourly wage, Ontario work experience, earnings history and status in Canada), education up to 20, language up to 25, and the location of the job up to 15.

What score do I need for an OINP invitation?

There’s no fixed pass mark. Ontario invites the highest-scoring candidates in each draw, and the cut-off changes from draw to draw. Compare your estimate with Ontario’s latest draw results.

Do jobs outside Toronto get more OINP points?

Yes. A job in Northern Ontario earns 15 points, Eastern, Central (outside the GTA) and Southwestern Ontario earn 10, the GTA outside Toronto earns 5, and the City of Toronto earns 0. It’s based on the work location in the job offer.

Which OINP streams still exist in 2026?

In 2026 Ontario replaced its nine previous streams with the Ontario Workforce Priority stream. It needs a permanent, full-time job offer from an employer that has registered the position with the OINP, and it’s open to jobs in any TEER category.
