Alberta PNP (AAIP)

Every Alberta worker stream and pathway, with how the Worker EOI score works.

The short answer

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is Alberta’s provincial nominee program. Its worker streams, the Alberta Opportunity, Rural Renewal and Tourism and Hospitality streams, use a Worker Expression of Interest scored out of 100. The Alberta Express Entry Stream invites from the federal pool, including the Accelerated Tech and Dedicated Health Care pathways, and a nomination through Express Entry adds 600 CRS points.

Alberta Opportunity Stream

Alberta’s main stream for temporary workers already working in the province.

  • Working in Alberta now
  • Alberta job offer
  • CLB 4 or 5, by TEER

About

You need to live and work in Alberta on a valid work permit, with a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in the same occupation. You need 12 months of full-time work in Alberta in the last 18 months, or 24 months in Canada or abroad in the last 30 months (6 months in Alberta for eligible PGWP holders), CLB 5 for TEER 0 to 3 or CLB 4 for TEER 4 and 5, and at least high school education. Some occupations aren’t eligible, and part-time, seasonal and remote jobs don’t qualify.

How I help

  • Eligibility: experience, language and the occupation list
  • Your Worker EOI score and how to raise it
  • Application, then your PR application after nomination
  • Temporary workers living and working full-time in Alberta
  • PGWP holders who graduated from an Alberta publicly funded institution
  • Workers in TEER 0 to 5 jobs that aren’t on Alberta’s ineligible list

Both need an active Express Entry profile with a CRS score of at least 300.

You also need 12 months of full-time work in an eligible occupation in the last 18 months, CLB 5 for TEER 0 to 3 or CLB 4 for TEER 4 and 5, and high school education. If you’re not working in Canada, you must show settlement funds.

Tourism and Hospitality Stream

The employer’s main business must be in an eligible industry under its Workers’ Compensation Board code, with valid WCB coverage or an exemption.

How I help

  • Employer, industry and occupation checks
  • Your Worker EOI and application
  • Your PR application after nomination
  • Hotel, restaurant, resort and tour workers already employed in Alberta

What decides these files

Where applications go wrong, and how I prevent it

  • Ineligible jobs and job types

Part-time, seasonal, contract and remote work don’t count, and some occupations are excluded, so I check the job first.

  • The score isn’t the only factor

Alberta draws by stream, sector and occupation, so a high score in a non-priority job can still wait.

Questions

Alberta PNP: common questions

What is Alberta’s Accelerated Tech Pathway?

It’s a pathway in the Alberta Express Entry Stream for people working full-time in Alberta, or holding a genuine job offer, in an eligible tech occupation with an employer in Alberta’s tech industry. You need an active Express Entry profile with CRS 300 or more, and you start with a web form. A nomination adds 600 CRS points.

Which AAIP streams use the Worker EOI?

The Alberta Opportunity, Rural Renewal and Tourism and Hospitality streams. The Alberta Express Entry Stream and its pathways select from the federal Express Entry pool instead.

How is the Alberta PNP score calculated?

The Worker EOI is scored out of 100: up to 69 for education, language, work experience, age and family in Alberta, and up to 31 for an Alberta job offer, its location and a regulated occupation. You can estimate yours with the Alberta PNP calculator.

Do I need to be working in Alberta to apply?

For the Alberta Opportunity and Tourism and Hospitality streams, yes. The Rural Renewal Stream and the Express Entry pathways need an Alberta job offer or contract, but not always current work in Alberta.
